Carmarthen and Stoke rider Joe Alcock will go down in history for being the last ever racer to win a speedway heat around the Loomer Road circuit.
After an emotional farewell to Stoke Speedway last night, the PDN Carmarthen Dragons paid a fitting tribute by beating Milton Keynes Knights 27-9.
Potters local lad and Dragons fans’ favourite Joe Alcock pulled off an impressive 9-point maximum for Carmarthen as he celebrated and paid homage to his local track.
Heat 1 was awarded as a 4-2 to the Dragons after Knights racer Sam Boon was excluded for being the primary cause of the stoppage.
In heat 2 talented Tim Colley past Stephen Whitehouse on the inside as they were going into bend 2 but Whitehouse subsequently fell off. After a short delay, the referee excluded Whitehouse and the race was awarded as a 5-1 - putting the Dragons 6-points in front.
The PDN Dragons scored two 4-2’s in heat 3 and 4 as Alcock and Elliot Kelly impressively pulled off the race wins in both heats in the exact same time – 68.1 seconds! Carmarthen storming the lead by 10-points.
Heat 5 was also awarded as Sam Boon was excluded for a fall, Dragons duo Ben Phillips and Tim Colley scoring an impressive 5-1.
Carmarthen finished their season notching another 5-1 in heat 6 as Alcock and Kelly both fired out the gate to take full advantage over their opponents and sending the Milton Keynes Knights into retreat.
Carmarthen chief Lawrence Fielding said: “We would really like to thank Dave Tattum and all at Stoke Speedway for letting us use Loomer Road as our adopted home for the last three seasons. Without their support, Carmarthen would never have returned to league action and we really can’t thank you all enough. We would also like to thank our main team sponsor, Raf at PDN, as he has been behind us from the very beginning and he’s supported us for the last 3 seasons, without his help it wouldn’t have been possible.
Also thank you to all our other sponsors that have helped us out this season: A J New Heating and Plumbing, Custom It, Lynnie Statham Media, TMT Media, APW Photography, Freeze and Chill, Visor Leaf and Lovell and Co Accountant’s.
Thank you to Tim Wright for being my right-hand man along with all the valuable volunteers that have helped us over recent seasons. Another big thank you goes out to all the riders that have ridden for Carmarthen this season. We appreciate all the time and graft they have invested into us.
