Why – I have chosen a few shots from a Drifting event in Norway for the panning submission. The vehicles driven at this event range in budget, style, and preparation. From guys who buy something and give it its last outing before the scrap yard, cars with tens of thousands of pounds thrown at them, and everything in between. This well-prepared retro estate performed well and caught my eye.

Why – During the meet, the top drivers put on a display and competition. Spectators gather on the embankment at turn 9, a 190 degree carousel. After shooting individual shots for the drivers throughout the event, the tyre smoke and spectators provide the background to pictures shot for the event organizers.

When - June 2018
Why – During the lunch break, whilst the rest of the track is being cleared of chunks of tyre, the start finish straight becomes a drag strip for participants and members of the public to compete against each other. If I remember correctly, this modified Porsche has won the drag race for 3 years on the trot, including in the rain one year.

Why - If you were at Cadwell on the Friday for testing you'll remember how wet it was. Saturday's qualifying was the complete opposite with glorious sunshine and capturing the BSB's as they raced through Halls Bends was a highlight of the year for me. This shot of Josh Brookes is one of my favourites for several reasons, it's in sharp focus, the bike is at a great angle, the shadow on the track and the sunlight flare on the side of the crash helmet. Plus the red & black Ducati's always look great. f14 @1/200th sec

Why - This was shot hand held at 1/100th with a Sigma 150-600mm C lens. The slow-ish shutter speed really shows the blur in the crowd and the wheels.

Why - These Radical SR1's were probably the fastest cars I watched race around Cadwell Park during the year and I was really pleased to get a shot of one in full flight. Something I always try to remember when doing any photography is... check your background. A messy or distracting back ground can ruin a shot. I was really happy to capture this White/Green car against the Green/White of the back ground. I think it really stands out. f22 @ 1/250th sec.

Why - The GTR-Driver club day on the runway event a few years ago. The day was mainly Nissan GTRs with a few guest cars including this lovely Ferrari. The day was split into two events, high speed runs and a handling course.
No way was I going to capture the guys going down the runway at 200mph, it just wasn’t safe so I headed off to the handling course where the light was perfect and 1/125 second was just right for this shot.

Why - Three of us went to Silverstone on the Friday to watch the practice for the UK round of the 2019 MotoGP. Going on the Friday had proved to be a wise move the previous year as it turned out to be the only time we would see the MotoGP riders doing what they do in the UK that year. The 2018 weekend turned out to be a washout with the Grand Prix being canceled on Sunday.
However, this time the UK round was one of the best and closest races of the year with Álex Rins winning by just 0.013s ahead of Marc Márquez. This shot of Andrea Dovizioso one of my favorites as it was shot through the safety wire at 1/320 second.

Why - Blyton Park is not great for the spectator photographer but on this occasion the track layout had the cars passing close to the spectators. This image demonstrates the difference between the mid range telephoto lens used in the other two shots and a short lens. Its much easer to pan with a short lens, this one was 1/30 second at 52mm
