The second running of the Questmead Rally Stages took place on the 1st March 2020 at the Three Sisters Circuit before the coronavirus outbreak had fully taken hold in the UK.

Organized by the Warrington and District Motor Club (WDMC), the event was dominated by the father and son team of John and Alex Stone in their Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
The Stones were to put in a very solid performance in a field of 61 entrants spread over six classes. 48 of the cars were to complete all the stages with 13 retiring. Heading the overall leader board all day, the Stones went on to win class E as well.

In second place overall by nearly a minute behind the Stones, Tom Morris and Colin Harkness in the number 3 Skoda Fabia S2500 were putting in solid seconds and third stage placings until stage 7 where they dipped to 5th place.

The 5th and 10th stage were the only ones John and Alex Stone didn’t win so this was an opportunity to drag some points back on the leaders that was missed.

Coming in third overall and first in class D, Jason and Lee Wilson in the Darrian T90GTR managed to set one fastest stage time and could have given John and Alex Stone a run for their money, but were suffering electrical issues all day after fitting a new engine.

The ever present rally favourite, the Ford Escort, now appears on the leader board headed up by Mark Jasper and Dom Whyatt. Matt Pierce locking up his Mk2 was in the pack of four in overall positions 4-7.

All of these Escorts were separated by under 10 seconds at the end of the day's rallying.

The last time we saw Adam Williams and Rachel Atherton was at Cadwell park, where they were involved in a nasty accident which required some heavy lift equipment to extract their very second hand Subaru from the armco.

Bouncing back in another Subaru Impreza they were to finish up in 8th place at the Questmead.
in class C, Jack and Tom Darbyshire in the Peugeot 106 GTI took the class win. Stage five was the best result of the day for the Darbyshires where they posted a 8th place overall.

The Three Sisters is a relatively new circuit, having been developed from industrial waste land in the early 1970s. It gets its name from the three huge coal mining spoil heaps that were located close by.

For years these blots on the landscape were known as the Wigan Alps but have now been developed into a nature park, visitors centre and the Three Sisters race track.
