Visiting Oulton Park for the penultimate races of the season, the Caterham Seven Championship UK is the only nationally recognised top-tier Caterham racing series in Britain today.

Caterham has a well-established history when it comes to racing, so it’s one of the most competitive and exciting competitions going. To keep the playing field level, every car on the grid is identical, and the car in question is specifically designed for the competition.

A 180bhp 2.0 Caterham Motorsport Tuned Engine, paired to a six-speed sequential gearbox, is fitted within the bespoke racing chassis. One seat, no lights, unlike other national racing series, this is pretty much out-of-the-box competition, meaning the season is included with the cost of the car. It’s all down to the skill of the driver.

Going to this week’s race meeting Stephen Nuttall, from Manchester in car 46 is topping the table with 278pts followed by Number 10, Henry Heaton on 262pts and in third is Gordon Sawyer in Number 91, 236pts.

With 25 points for the win, 1 point for fastest lap and with additional points for the top 3 cars in the Super Pole qualification race.

This weekend being the usual double header, the standings are likely to change before heading to Cadwell Park for the final round of the season.

Qualifying and Superpole

With Gordon Sawyer only completing 2 laps of qualifying and ending up 15th out of 15 he never made it through to Super Pole, unlike Stephen Nutall and Henry Heaton scoring those extra additional points as they took pole and second on the grid in the Super Pole race.

Saturday Race Day

With the sun shining and a dry track Stephen Nuttall started on pole and led the race all the way with the exception of lap 4 where Henry Heaton led the field, but Stephen was back ahead by lap 5 and went on to claim maximum 25pts.

With James Murphy in 2nd & Henry Heaton in 3rd.  Gordon Sawyer finishing down the order in 10th place.

Sunday Race Day

Unfortunately I could not be there on Sunday, but a change in the weather saw rain and damp track conditions.

With the field starting place order from Saturday, it was James Murphy in Number 3 and George Monks in Number 5 who took full advantage of the conditions to take 1st and 2nd respectively.

With Stephen Nuttall dropping points and coming 13th behind Gordon sawyer in 11th but grabbing an extra point for the fastest lap. Unfortunately for Henry Heaton he went out on lap 5.
