Carmarthen Dragons v Exeter Falcons
Carmarthen’s winning streak came to an end last night as they lost to Exeter 16-19 on home soil. But PDN Dragons bosses admit they are not too discouraged with the result as the close score has kept Carmarthen at the top of the MSDL table.
The meeting started with a share of the spoils as the dynamic Dragons duo Adam Barber and Danny Woodward held second and third places behind Exeter’s race winner Adam Sheppard.
Heat 2 saw the Dragons collect no points as Tim Colley was excluded after lifting on the second bend and then Elliot Kelly fell in the re-run. The Chris Richards Falcons took the heat advantage to pull clear by 5-points.
Carmarthen pulled back 2-points in heat 3 as Woodward held off Jamie Bursill to take the chequered flag and Barber just managed to keep number 3 James Chattin at bay for third place.
The PDN Dragons clawed back another 4-2 heat advantage in heat 4 as Elliot Kelly jet-propelled out the traps to pass Sheppard at the first bend to win the race. Colley came third on borrowed machinery after passing Kris Andrews on the third bend.
With only 1-point between them, heat 5 saw another shared heat. Debut Dragon Kelly pulled a country mile in front to win the race whilst Falcon rider Andrews passed Barber to take third place behind Chattin.
Fired up Sheppard and his Chris Richards Falcon team mate Chattin went out in the final heat to take a 2-4 heat advantage and the win on the night.
PDN Dragons boss Lawrence Fielding commented:
“I’m not too disappointed with the result as all the lads put in a lot of effort on and off the track, but on the night they were up against a strong team. Heat two didn’t help us as we failed to score any points with Tim and Elliot not completing the race but we did put up a good fight against a side that had two National League reserves. We are away to Exeter this Friday so I’m trying to put together a competitive team but rider unavailability keeps troubling me at the moment.”
