5 Nations Rallycross Round 2 - Lydden Hill

A few weekends ago I made the 280-mile trip to Lydden hill for Round 2 of the 5 Nations Rallycross.

For those that haven’t been to Lydden Hill it’s the spiritual home of Rallycross and an ideal venue for this motorsport as it’s a one-mile track that has mixed surfaces to test the cars and drivers.

My main focus at Lydden Hill was to capture photos and video of Tony Lynch driving his Retro Mk1 Toyota Mr2 under the Team Geriatric banner in the Retro Rallycross Championship.

This Championship is for cars that have, or a type that have, been used in British or European Rallycross up to the end of 31st of December 1991 for 2WD or the 31st of December 1999 for Group B and 4-wheel drive.

This Year Tony is running the “Landsail tyres Blue” with new Landsail Motorsport Livery in the Retro Class as they were once again his Title sponsor.

As I drove down on the Sunday Night I had planned on sleeping in my car because I’m a committed photographer and that’s what you do.

Arriving early, I had some time on my hands and found myself sharing a BBQ in Steve Harris’s camp discussing all things Rally Cross, he was running the iconic Ford RS200!

The 650 BHP 4-wheel drive Group B car really is always amazing to watch! Speaking of RS200’s, Liam Doran was out in his RS200 as well!  Having never seen one race before I really was spoiled to see TWO in the same day!

Throughout the day the racing was fast, dusty and very exiting! I captured these next few pictures of Slawomir Woloch “Slav” getting it a bit wrong in his V8 Powered BMW coming out of the Joker lap and launching him and his car in the air for about 10 feet!

Almost clearing one of the cooper tyres ad blocks.  I guess I really was in the right place at the right time! If you watch the video Below his reaction after taking flight was priceless.

The next 5 Nations Rallycross event will be held over the weekend of 29th - 30th August at Pembrey, Chat motorsport will be there to capture the action.
